Chapter 42
The Eric Helms Pyramid
Hello! Today we’ll look at what really matters in your training – with the well-known Eric Helms pyramid.
At the bottom is the foundation: your weekly training volume. How many sets you do largely determines your progress.
Above that comes training intensity. You should work close enough to fatigue for your muscles to feel a stimulus.
Next is your technique. Clean execution makes your training safe and comparable.
Then come things like exercise selection and frequency. They determine how well you cover each muscle group.
Only near the top are details like tempo, rest periods, or special training methods. They help, but aren’t the most important.
At the very top are small things like supplements. They can help, but never replace good training and nutrition.
If you focus on the basics – volume, intensity, technique – you’ll definitely see progress.
Summary: Focus on the big things first. The pyramid shows you clearly what has priority and what’s just a bonus.
That way you stay focused and don’t waste energy on the unimportant.
